Jenny Lambert attended the University of Houston, receiving a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and later an associate degree from San Antonio College in Legal Assisting. She worked in the legal field for 10 years, primarily working in medical malpractice defense.
Jenny and her husband, Mike, met as teenagers at the Methodist Church in their small farming community of Enon, Ohio.
After Mike’s second cancer, Jenny and her husban retired to their home on Lake Austin in, amazingly enough, Austin, Texas, to pursue the “giving back” phase of their lives. They have served on the Board of charities such as I Care San Antonio and Guide Dogs of Texas. Jenny and Mike established the Greenon High School Foundation and the Frank Giampetro and Elva Hampshire Scholarships to support their high school and maintain the excellence of the school district. Their work led to the construction of a new elementary, junior high and high school, which opened in fall 2021.
Jenny enjoys reading and exercise and is involved in two book clubs, including L3’s and works several days a week at the Setllement Home in Austin for 12-18 year old girls. She does her daily five-mile walks and plays pickleball with friends. She and her husband both love to travel.
Jenny and Mike are very proud of their son and daughter-in-law, two of the four members of The Octopus Project, an Austin band now focusing on movie and television scores. They recently completed “Butterflies in the Sky” with Levar Burton, the story of “Reading Rainbow” and have won several awards for their work in documentary and movie productions.

Mike and his wife, Jenny, met as teenagers at the Methodist Church in their small farming community of Enon, Ohio. After graduation from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1970, Mike began a 20+ year career in the Air Force as an instructor pilot in the T-38 (supersonic jet trainer) followed by a move to medical school after Nam. He completed his internship (ob/gyn/medicine) and an ophthalmology residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center. He then completed a fellowship at Duke University in Vitreoretinal Surgery with the founder of the specialty, Dr. Robert Machemer.
As a vitreoretinal surgeon, Mike was Chairman of the Ophthalmology Department at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio (the only AF training program) as well as Chief of Surgery, Consultant to the Air Force Surgeon General, and other classified jobs. He retired from the Air Force in 1990 but continued his academic career at Emory University in Atlanta and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston before founding Retina and Vitreous of Texas in Houston. During that time, he developed a reputation for handling the most complicated vitreoretinal cases and was active in retina research as well as the design and development of intricate surgical instruments for ophthalmic surgery.
In 2013 Mike, after his second cancer, retired to their home on Lake Austin in, amazingly enough, Austin, Texas, to pursue the “giving back” phase of their lives. Mike became a Founding Director of the Air Force Academy Foundation and subsequently Chairman of Planned Giving for the academy, and founded the first AOG chapter in Central Texas. He has served on the board of charities such as I Care San Antonio, Guide Dogs of Texas, Nantucket Retina Foundation and is co-founder of the Robert Machemer Foundation at Duke. He and his wife established the Greenon High School Foundation and the Frank Giampetro and Elva Hampshire Scholarships to support their high school and maintain the excellence of the school district. Their work led to the construction of a new elementary, junior high and high school, which opened in fall 2021.
Mike’s hobbies include restoring and rallying cars, photography, computers, exercise and flying. He and his wife love to travel.

Sue is president and chief executive officer of Greater Texas Foundation (GTF), a private foundation that supports efforts to ensure all Texas students are prepared for, have access to, persist in and complete a postsecondary education.
Sue is also the principal andlo managing consultant of her consulting business Iolite Consulting Services, LLC, which provides management consulting services in the financial services, fintech and non-profit fields.
She worked for Texas Guaranteed Student Loan (now Trellis Company/Trellis Foundation) from 1993-2015 in several executive management roles and served at its president/CEO from 2004-2015. Prior to that, Sue worked for Guaranty Federal Bank for 11 years in retail operations managerial roles, including assistant vice president of retail services and vice president/director of deposit operations.
Sue grew up in Midland, Michigan and moved to Texas to attend St. Edward’s University in Austin where she graduated with a BA.
She has served on the boards of the National Student Clearinghouse, the National Council of Higher Education Resources, ELM Resources, the National College Attainment Network and Texas Rural Funders. Sue is the past president of the National Association of Student Loan Administrators.
She has served as a Board member and past Board chair of the United Way of Williamson County, Texas, and is a former member of the Austin Chamber of Commerce’s Federal Advocacy Council. Sue is a member of the Board of Visitors for Southwestern University and serves on the board of Texell Credit Union as its immediate past chair.

Lori Fernandes enjoyed a career in the travel industry. Moving from Colorado to Connecticut for her job in 1989, she met Rick and they married and settled in Fairfield Conn. She stayed at home to raise their two sons, Nick and Daniel.
While being a full-time mom, she became very involved in various non-profit charities and served on many Boards. Lori took on leadership roles at their church and in the schools their boys attended. After the boys were grown Lori and her husband Rick bought a home in Naples, Fla., where they enjoy golfing, pickleball, biking and the Naples sun and fun.
A few years ago, Lori joined the L3 board and became chair of the travel committee. She has used her travel career skills in planning some great trips for the membership. Lori and Rick have traveled on several of the L3 trips in the last few years and continue to meet new friends on these wonderful trips.

While spending more time to concentrate on other areas of interest, Bill continues to own and operate a small optical fiber telecommunications and technology consulting firm focusing primarily on the K-12 education market.
Bill is a father to two wonderful daughters and has two sports-oriented grandsons. He takes great pleasure in most outdoor activities including golf, sailing, hiking, e-cycling, tennis, vegetable gardening and precision sport shooting. He also enjoys cooking, photography, culinary tourism, travel; and the studies of cultural and biological anthropology, human genetics and world history.

Lance was born and raised in New Orleans and relocated to Austin, Texas, following Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Lance attended the University of Texas at Austin as a Dedman Scholar and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1993. Jennifer earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Loyola University New Orleans in 1990.
Lance is celebrating his 32nd year with Merrill Lynch, where he has built a distinguished career in wealth management. He has been recognized by Forbes magazine as a “Best-in-State Wealth Management Advisor” for the past seven consecutive years. Throughout his tenure, he has served as Sales Manager and Practice Management Development Coach and now holds the position of Senior Resident Director of the Davenport Westlake office in Austin. He is also a past president of the Austin chapter of Legatus, a captain at Manresa Retreat House, and serves on the Board of L3.
Lance and his wife Jennifer are the proud parents of two children. Their daughter is a recent graduate of the University of Texas School of Law and a licensed attorney with the Texas Bar. Their son is a graduate of Texas Christian University and is currently pursuing his Master’s in Business Analytics at the McCombs School of Business while working alongside his father with the Giambelluca Group.
The Giambellucas love traveling, cooking, spending time at Lake LBJ, and cheering on their favorite teams.

Jennifer has devoted her time to raising their family and creating a warm, welcoming home. As a full-time mother and community volunteer, she has been actively involved in her children’s schools, parish activities, and local charitable initiatives. Known for her creativity, compassion, and ability to bring people together, Jennifer has been the heart of the Giambelluca family—supporting her children’s education, organizing family traditions, and fostering strong connections with friends and neighbors.
Jennifer and her husband are the proud parents of two children. Their daughteris a recent graduate of the University of Texas School of Law and a licensed attorney with the Texas Bar. Their son is a graduate of Texas Christian University and is currently pursuing his Master’s in Business Analytics at the McCombs School of Business while working alongside his father with the Giambelluca Group.

Susan Benson
Susan Benson retired in 2017 after a 35-year career in direct mail marketing, online marketing and the infomercial businesses.
Susan and her husband Victor have been involved with the Fresh Air Fund of New York City. Susan is passionate about the organization and has worked with it to grow the Friendly Town Program. She also participated in the organization’s career awareness and educational tutoring programs. Since its founding in 1877, the Fresh Air Fund has provided life-changing summer vacations for children from New York City's under-served communities. These vacations take place at the Fresh Air Fund camps or at host family homes. Host families live in 14 states from North Carolina to Maine. Susan and Victor hosted a Fresh Air Fund child at their home in East Hampton, N.Y., for 12 years. Now that they live on Cape Cod in the summer months, they will host a child next summer.
Susan and Victor live in Bonita Springs for seven months of the year. They live in Mashpee, Mass., in the summer. In her free time, Susan enjoys family visits, cooking, travel, golf and tennis.
Mary Carrington
Mary Carrington has been a corporate law and global business transactions attorney representing the technology industry for more than 40 years. Mary was among the first to confront the complex legal issues related to software technology.
She founded the Center for Corporate Legal Leadership within the UCI Law School for advancing corporate lawyers to general counsel. In 2021, she was named a trustee of the UCI Foundation. Mary is passionate about closing the gender gap through her work on the Women’s Leadership Board at the Harvard Kennedy School, the Center for Women in the Law at The University of Texas at Austin and the Trusteeship of the International Women’s Forum. Mary has had a lifelong involvement with her family’s international hospitality and food service businesses in Texas, the RK Group.
Married for 47 years, Mary and her husband, John’s global philanthropy focuses on: Oceana for saving oceans, the Culinary Institute of America for chefs, Smithsonian Gem Counsel for Earth, the Hoover Institute for public policy and Friends of the Dalai Lama for human compassion. They intersect these interests with extensive international travel and leadership participation in YPO Gold, CEO, L3 (founding members) and various visual and performing arts, literary and decorative arts boards.
Susan Lubin
Susan has dedicated her time as a volunteer, raising millions of dollars for non-profits in Austin. During this time, she also sang with the Austin Lyric Opera, where she was president of the Board of Directors. Susan is most proud of her role in helping to create the Ronald McDonald House of Central Texas and co-founding the Seton (Hospital) Breast Care Center.
Susan and her husband have a wonderful daughter, son-in-law and grandson.
Al Nagy
Al Nagy retired in 2018. He was the co-founder of PFMG Solar, a solar energy developer serving schools, businesses and communities, which was sold to Exelon. He remains involved in business by serving as an adviser for three sustainable energy companies.
Al’s past careers include commercial real estate development, capital structuring and financial management as the founder and principal of three public limited partnerships. He served on the Boards of several public and private companies, two school Boards and the State of California Council for Post-Secondary Education. His educational background includes study at Essen-Heidhausen Gymnasium, Hamburg University in Germany, a bachelor’s degree from Denison University and a master’s degree from Claremont Graduate University.
Al and his wife split their year between Manzanillo, Mexico, and their lake home in Minocqua, Wis. Three of their four children are married, and they have three grandchildren. They remain supportive of many charities that serve the needs of youth by providing scholarships and neonatal hospital care.
Al and his wife love to snow ski, travel, golf, spend time with family and share their love of food, wine and conversation with family and good friends.
Kathy Nagy
Kathy Nagy loves children and most of her life’s efforts have involved trying to make the world a better place for them through love, advocacy, education and health care.
Concerned that our most innocent citizens have no voice and need adult advocates to speak out against their neglect, sexual and physical abuse, Kathy got involved in Childhelp, USA, chairing and working on numerous fundraisers to support Childhelp’s many programs.
Kathy was a founding member of El Camino Health Auxiliary, which raises funds to help defray the clinic’s expenses and provide free or affordable medical care for families.
While Kathy and her husband’s three children attended school she volunteered and worked on many enrichment, educational, outreach activities and fundraisers. She was president of the parent/teacher group and a member of the school’s Board.

John Scribner
John Scribner is a born and raised Chicagoan. He received his undergraduate degree in finance and accounting from Roosevelt University and his juris doctor degree, summa cum laude, from Loyola University College of Law.
John spent 40 years in the wine industry, partnering in the growth of a local wholesale wine distributor into an international producer, importer, distributor and marketer of fine wines. At Terlato Wine Group he was a director, chief financial officer and general counsel. In the nine years prior to his retirement in 2017 he served as chief operating officer of the company’s wineries in Napa, Sonoma and Santa Barbara, Calif.
John has served as the chairman and executive committee member of national trade organizations and was the finance chair of the Board of Directors of Chicago Shakespeare Theater. He was twice elected to and served for six years on the Board of Education of Lake Forest, Ill., High School District 115. John is an instrument-rated private pilot and continues to work to save his golf game from total collapse.
John and his wife, Patti, have three children who are each pursuing their passions in the diverse locales of Santa Monica, Calif., Brooklyn and Houston, Texas. John and Patti divide their time between their homes in the Northwoods of Wisconsin and the Pacific coast of Mexico.
Patti Scribner
Patti Scribner started life as a Texan, but at a young age was transplanted to the northern suburbs of Chicago. She attended New Trier High School and the University of Wisconsin. She is the sole representative of her extended family to live above the Mason-Dixon line. Consumed by a love of culinary arts she caught the wave of the New American food scene of the 1970s, not allowing a degree in history to stop her professional progress. Patti managed an acclaimed French cooking school in the Chicago area (Dumas Pere), was food services manager of the Ambassador East Hotel and later food and beverage manager of the University Club of Chicago. She took early retirement to become chief operating officer of the Scribner Family. A lifelong passion for literacy led her to Reading Power, a jump-start program for at-risk children in the North Chicago public schools.
Patti and her husband, John, have three children who are each pursuing their passions in the diverse locales of Santa Monica, Calif., Brooklyn and Houston, Texas. John and Patti divide their time between their homes in the Northwoods of Wisconsin and the Pacific coast of Mexico.
Karen Smith
From her birth in Chicago during World War II until after her graduation from Northwestern University, Karen never ventured far from home but has taken advantage of many travel opportunities. She began her career in 1965 working in the financial services industry where she held positions with A.G. Becker in Chicago and Richard Gilder, Inc., in New York City. During her first marriage she accompanied her husband to Pfizer Inc., assignments in Brussels, Seoul and Tokyo for 12 years.
After moving to Wilton, Conn., in 1981, Karen focused on her most important priority of raising three children. She was active in public school and community leadership positions before pursuing a second career following her dream to enter the nonprofit world. She worked for the National YMCA for eight years and then in 1997 took a position as assistant to the president and Board chairman of TechnoServe Inc., an international not-for-profit working to create small businesses with the rural poor in Latin America and Africa.
She served on several philanthropic Boards and was Board chair of The Center for Hope in Darien, Conn., working to support families experiencing life-threatening illness and bereavement. Since her marriage to Sam 20 years ago, Karen has been deeply committed to their five children, their children’s spouses and 12 grandchildren.
Since 2010, Karen and her husband, Sam have enjoyed serving together on the Northwestern University Alumni Board of southwest Florida. Both also support The Imagine Solutions Conference in Naples as Genesis Society members. Sam and Karen are both 15-year cancer survivors. They are former Susan G. Komen Board of Director members and serve on their Bonita Springs, Fla., Presbyterian Church cancer support groups.
In 2014, Sam and Karen moved to Naples, Fla. Their families love to visit the beach, especially in winter.
Sam and Karen have enjoyed world travels throughout their 20 years of marriage and have been able to visit more than 75 countries.
Sam Smith
Sam Smith retired in 2004 as chairman of McLagan Partners Inc., a management consulting firm that was a leader in providing consulting and customized performance and compensation reports to the world’s leading financial services organizations.
He was involved with establishing the firm’s offices in Chicago, New York, London, Tokyo and Hong Kong. McLagan was sold to AON Corporation in 2001. Prior to being one of the co-founders of McLagan, Sam was a consultant and project manager for Booz, Allen & Hamilton, Inc. He also co-founded Chase Franklin Corporation, which has been involved in private equity investments since 1969. He and Karen remain involved with several other private equity organizations. This interest led to joining church friends in Darien, Conn., who partnered with World Vision to support microlending projects in South America and Africa.
After Sam retired, he became increasingly engaged in church and community activities, including six years on The Shelter for Abused Women and Children Board of Directors and two years as chairman of its Board. He was proud to help create a men’s organization, Gentlemen Against Domestic Violence. Karen also served six years on The Shelter Board and is now a member of The Shelter Board of Trustees.
Since 2010, Sam and his wife, Karen, have enjoyed serving together on the Northwestern University Alumni Board of southwest Florida.
